User interface

The Tome user interface comprises a Main Toolbar, an Edit Toolbar and an Editor where the document content is displayed and edited.

The Main Toolbar provides easy access to tools that assist document management, such as Navigation, Preview, Screen text size and additional Tools. The Documents Button is used to exit the editor and close a document.

The Editing Toolbar provides access to tools useful when editing a document.

The Editor is where the document content such as text and images are displayed.

The Navigator displays a summary of document content and allows quick navigation to content within a document.

The Editor

Tapping in the editor displays the keyboard to allow text entry.

The Edit Controls and Keyboard Controls are displayed.

These contain controls for text formatting, typing assistance and image insertion.


Edit Controls

Text Styles displays the text styles menu.

Page break inserts a page break at before the current paragraph.

Image displays the image insertion menu.

Keyboard Controls

The Cursor Left/Right buttons move the cursor which controls text insertion point. Alignment controls allow the selected paragraph to override the default text alignment associated with the current text style.

End exits edit mode and hides the keyboard.

Text

Apply text formatting to your document

Text Styles

Change the appearance of text by applying a text style. This adjusts font, font size, color, alignment, line and paragraph spacing.

Text styles allow you to automatically apply font, color and alignment settings to text.

The following styles are defined: Heading 1, Heading 2, Heading 3, Paragraph, Bullet, Headline, Sub Headline, Footnote, Figure, Title, Sub Title, Caption 1, Caption 1.

Customize

Text Styles can be customized to change the appearance. Font, Font Size, Color, Alignment, Line Spacing, Paragraph Spacing Before & After can all be adjusted.

Style Gallery

The style gallery allows you to easily select a pre-defined set of styles to change the appearance of a document.

Images

Align, Resize and Crop Images

Insert images into a document from the Camera Roll, Camera or iCloud Drive. Use the built in image editor to align, resize and crop.


Resize

Images can be resized using the Size Slider. Using the Size Stepper for precise control, the size can be adjusted in 1mm increments.


Align

Left, Centre or Right align images. The image preview shows how the image will appear on the page.


In-Line

Images are normally displayed on a new line between paragraphs of text. Toggle the In-Line switch to position images side by side.


Border

Toggle the Border switch to apply a border around the image.


Crop

Images can be cropped to remove unwanted parts of an image.

Editing Tools

Make changes quickly and easily

Spelling

Fix spelling mistakes easily with spelling results and suggestions.

The results of a spell check are listed above the document. Scroll through the list to review the suggestions and see the total number of results.

Tapping a spelling result will scroll to it's location in the document so that changes can be made.

The spelling errors in a document are highlighted to that they can be easily identified.

Search

Find occurrences of words and characters in a document with keyword search. Tap a search result to scroll to it's location in the document.

Re-order

Editing documents is easier with Tome.

Move paragraphs using the Reorder Control to move paragraphs and change the order.

This is easier and faster than having to select a paragraph of text, cut and paste it to a new location.

Undo

Tap Undo to undo any edits you have made to a document. If you change your mind tap Redo to revert back to the original.

Delete

Paragraphs and images can be deleted with a swipe to the left gesture.

Managing Your Work

Tome helps navigate, index and organize

When writing long documents it can be difficult to keep track of what you have written. Tome solves this problem with powerful navigation tools.

Table of Contents

Tome can automatically create a Table of Contents to summarize the Headings used in a document.

Automatic Heading numbering for up to three heading levels.

Scroll directly to parts of a document by selecting the heading from the Document Navigator.

Re-order whole sections of a document by adjusting the heading order.

Page Previews

View and navigate you document quickly with thumbnail previews.

Viewable in 3 sizes the thumbnails also allow you to scroll the editor to a particular page by tapping on the page thumbnail.

A full screen preview lets you easily read a document without the distraction of controls and buttons.

Index Creation

Automatically create an Index to reference words that appear in a document.

Simply add the words you want to appear in the Index and let Tome takes care of indexing the pages.

Statistics

View key statistics about your document with character, word, sentence, paragraph and page counts.

Sharing Your Work

Sharing Documents

A document can be shared by Email, stored on iCloud Drive and copied to iTunes for backup on a Mac or PC.

The native file format for Tome has the TDX extension. A document with this format can be imported back into Tome, with formatting and layout information preserved.

Documents can also be exported in PDF, RTF, RTFD, TXT & HTML formats.

Print

Print a hardcopy of a document by sending it directly to a printer using AirPrintâ„¢. Preview the document before printing to check content.

Import

Files can be imported into Tome from Email attachments, iCloud Drive and from iTunes. Supported file formats include TDX, TXT and RTF.
